Strategic Manufacturing Sector Skill Council (SMSSC)

The Strategic Manufacturing Sector Skill Council (SMSSC) is a sector-specific body under the NSDC, formed to develop specialized skills required for India’s high-precision, defense, and marine manufacturing sectors. With national security and maritime development being priority areas, SMSSC ensures the availability of a technically competent workforce to support critical manufacturing operations.

SMSSC collaborates with defense establishments, shipyards, design firms, and engineering institutions to create National Occupational Standards (NOS) for roles such as marine fitters, pipe fitters, structural fabricators, ship scrappers, and fire safety technicians. These training programs emphasize technical expertise, safety compliance, and operational efficiency.

By cultivating skilled manpower in areas that are vital to India's strategic interests, SMSSC contributes directly to self-reliance, innovation, and global competitiveness in the defense and shipbuilding industries.
