The Domestic Workers Sector Skill Council (DWSSC) is an industry initiative under the NSDC, with a focus on empowerment and professionalization of domestic workers in India. With millions working in domestic homes throughout India, DWSSC plays a critical role in setting skill standards, promoting dignity of labor, and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for domestic workers.
The council formulates National Occupational Standards (NOS) in different domestic occupations like housekeeping, child care, elderly care, cooking, and multipurpose assistance. The programs are meant to ensure standardized training, improve the quality of services, and enhance safety and hygiene in home-based work.
By empowering domestic workers through skill certification and formal recognition, DWSSC narrows the difference between informal labor and organized employment, enabling social inclusion and economic independence, particularly for women and marginalized groups.
